Antenna Research Group (ARG) at the University of Colorado Boulder carries out research and education in applied electromagnetics with emphasis on RF antennas and systems. With over 20 years of experience of working under the sponsorship from the Department of Defense, National Science Foundation, various industry partners and laboratories, the ARG students and research associates have contributed to the new technologies, such as PolyStrata, and many novel antennas and RF systems operating from 2MHz through 220THz. 412 TW Benefield Anechoic Facility (BAF) at the Air Force Test Center Electronic Warfare Group’s 772 Test Squadron, Edwards AFB: The BAF provides a robust RF T&E infrastructure to ensure system performance, survivability and mission effectiveness for the DoD, industry and allies. The largest anechoic test facility (264ft L x 250ft W x 70ft H) provides a secure “virtual open-air RF range within four walls” — a valuable tool providing test engineering applied to the development and the T&E of RF systems. We conduct Antenna Measurements, Electronic Warfare/Information Operations, Survivability, Electromagnetic Interoperability and Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) tests. The uniquely large and well-equipped BAF offers a highly flexible and scalable indoor antenna range and test capability for installed and uninstalled antenna systems across a wide spectrum. With its positioners, turntable, hoists and integrated measurement equipment, it offers a unique and extremely comprehensive and flexible test capability. It has proven beneficial for the test of antennas as individual antennas to antenna systems integrated on large aircraft across a wide frequency spectrum and geometries. Agile RF Systems recently completed construction of a new facility in Berthoud, CO (between Fort Collins and Denver). This facility houses a new state of the art Vector Near Field Antenna Range developed by Next Phase Measurement. The range is capable of planar scans of 20 feet high by 30 feet wide. ARS has a Portable Weather Radar nearing production readiness having an equivalent aperture size of approximately 1 square meter. This radar uses phased array electronics with a multi-channel software defined radio transceiver enabling multifunction use and dual polarization at X-band.
